Pomegranates acts like Viagra?

Pomegranates have long been celebrated as both delicious and nutritious. Pomegranates were symbols of fertility in Grecian culture, and appear in the Bible as a fruit of royalty. The vibrant red jewel-like fruit and potent juices are recognized for having anti-cancer properties and have one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants found in any fruit. Now, new scientific research indicates that a glass of pomegranate juice a day may be as potent in Viagra in assisting men with erectile function.

pomegranate-openIn the first clinical study of its kind, researchers found that men with erectile dysfunction who consumed one cup of pomegranate juice a day experienced stronger reactions when compared to drinking a placebo juice. The study was a “crossover” study, where the same group of men took both the pomegranate juice and the placebo juice over different four-week periods. This allowed the study to investigate the efficacy of pomegranate in each man. About half of the men found erections easier to maintain while drinking pomegranate juice. The juice may help increase blood flow to the penis, the essential physiological response needed for erections and sexual pleasure.

According to study done at the University of Southern California, “These findings are very encouraging as they suggest there is a non-invasive, non-drug way to potentially alleviate this quality of life issue that affects so many men. For men with Erectile Dysfunction, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise. Drinking pomegranate juice daily could be an important addition to the diet in the management of this condition.”

Pomegranate juice is increasingly available in all major grocery stores. You can also enjoy the healthy benefits of the whole fruit. The rich juice will stain, however, so some caution is recommended as you separate the juicy seeds from the white rind. One great method is opening up the fruit while submerged in water. The seeds will sink, the white membrane will float. Once you have opened the entire fruit, simply drain the water and enjoy the healthy and vibrant red seeds.

Of course, no one is recommending that you replace your trusted Viagra with pomegranate juice. Further research is needed, and will surely reveal more health-giving properties to benefit men and women alike. Meanwhile, why not treat yourself to a tall glass of ruby red pomegranate juice? The health benefits are well established, and you may find that you get some unexpected sexual benefits as well.

Aphrodisiac Food List

There hasn’t always been an agreement upon what foods were actually aphrodisiacs or “anaphrodisiacs” (decrease potency). But the ancient list included Anise, basil, carrot, salvia, gladiolus root, orchid bulbs, pistachio nuts, rocket (arugula), sage, sea fennel, turnips, skink flesh (a type of lizard) and river snails.

The ancients suggested you steer clear of dill, lentil, lettuce, watercress, rue, and water lily.

Yohimbe

yohimbeYohimbe is the name of the bark of a tall evergreen tree in western Africa known as Pausinystalia yohimbe or Corynanthe yohimbe. Yohimbe bark has been used for centuries in some western African nations for sexual enhancement. For centuries, natives from these areas have ingested both the crude bark and purified compound as a tonic to enhance sexual prowess and as an aphrodisiac. The bark has been smoked as a hallucinogen and has been used in traditional medicine to treat angina and hypertension. The herb is a sensual stimulant for healthy men and women.

Yohimbe’s energizing effects stem from its ability to increase blood flow to the genitals, both male and female. It is thought to stimulate the pelvic nerve ganglia and thus is helpful for men with erection problems. Recent studies suggest the drug may be effective in the treatment of male impotence especially that associated with diabetes. In fact the prescription drug, yohimbine hydrochloride, is approved by the FDA for treating impotence. Effects can include increased libido, increased sensation and increased stamina. Women have also reported similar effects and general pleasant sensations.

When buying yohimbe, try to get pure pharmaceutical yohimbine rather than a product that just uses yohimbe bark. With yohimbine tablets manufactured in a proper pharmaceutical laboratory, you can exactly dose your intake of the active ingredient. On the other hand, with a yohimbe bark product, you’ll always keep on guessing: how much yohimbe do you get? Unfortunately, the yohimbine content isn’t even consistent between production batches of one and the same brand. For this reason, if you want to use the active ingredient of yohimbe bark for sexual enhancement, then look for yohimbine tablets, NOT for yohimbe capsules. The active ingredient uses the ending -bine, while the bark name ends with -be. With the refined alkaloid, yohimbine, you also avoid unpleasant side effects, such as headache, but most importantly, if you buy yohimbine, you know that you get a product that works for sexual enhancement. Ninety percent of the yohimbe bark products are entirely worthless because they contain almost no yohimbine.

Yohimbe may be used either daily or before planned sexual activity. Since yohimbe works quite quickly, it makes sense that it be taken as needed one to three hours before planned sexual activity rather than taken daily. The effects last several hours. Don’t take yohimbe close to bedtime since it can have a stimulant and alertness causing effect for several hours. Also, don’t mix yohimbe with alcohol or stimulant drugs, including high doses of caffeine.

Yohimbe should be used cautiously by anyone with a medical condition, particularly those with unstable hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, or those taking medicines, particularly tranquilizers, antidepressants, sedatives, antihistamines, amphetamines and other stimulants, including caffeine and herbal stimulants such as ginseng. Some of the side effects of high doses of yohimbe include anxiety, changes in blood pressure, heart rate increase, palpitations, dizziness, headache, visual disturbances, nausea or abdominal cramps, increased body temperature and sweating. As with many herbs or medicines, the right dose works well but too high a dose causes side effects.

Kava Kava

kava-kavaKava kava is a natural aphrodisiac that has the effect of directly increasing sexual desire and prowess and even increasing the intensity of the sensations felt during orgasm. Kava kava is obtained from the shrub Piper methysticum, which is native to the Polynesian Islands. It has been used by the Islanders as a religious and visionary herb and aphrodisiac for most of their history. Kava kava can be obtained online if you can’t find it locally.

Since none of the active ingredients of kava kava are water soluble, the natives would pre-chew the roots and then blend this saliva/root mixture with coconut milk. The resulting liquid was then fermented to produce a potent beverage that was used for important rituals. The effect of the drink is to relax spinal activity, producing an euphoric state of relaxation, but without impairing mental activity. Some users also experience a tingling feeling in the genitalia, producing all the ingredients for an interesting sexual experience.

If you would like to try a kava drink without the saliva, mix together in a blender one ounce of powdered kava kava root, two tablespoons of olive oil, one tablespoon of soy lecithin granules, and ten ounces of water. Blend on high for one minute. This amount is enough for 2-4 people.

Kava kava produces no side effects when taken in moderate doses, but its abuse can lead to health problems. Heavy abusers studied suffered from shortness of breath, dry scaly skin, and slight alterations in red and white blood cells and platelets. The reports of alleged liver damage have generally been dismissed, and even the country that hosted the study has repealed their ban on kava kava because it has been proved to be a safe and effective herbal product for almost any age.

Many people have found medicinal uses for kava kava. It is used by athletes as well as businessmen to help “take the edge off” and focus concentration. Kava has been shown to help ease anxiety, depression, and to help produce restful sleep. It’s interesting to note that these are the some of the same effects that a satisfying sexual experience often produces. It seems that no matter how you use it, kava kava will leave you feeling better.

Berries that Enhance Your Sex Drive

Both raspberries and strawberries can increase your sex-drive. Here’s the science bit, concentrate!

It appears that Zinc is the culprit for this; being, as it is, the nutrient most associated with sex. It governs levels of testosterone in the body, which is required for sperm production. And, as a man can deplete his entire Zinc supply if he has sex three times within 24 hours, (Lucky Girl/Guy!) it’s an extremely important nutrient to consider if you are planning a prolonged sex session. Not only this, but a woman’s body will prepare itself for sex more quickly if her Zinc levels are high.

ON is a London-based charity established in 1984 to study and conduct research into nutrition, whose research areas now include any aspect of nutritious foods and healthy eating. Research says, “Every time you have sex, or simply want to ready yourself or your partner for sex you should consume a handful of raspberries or strawberries. It’s not just the Zinc content of the berries which is beneficial in the bedroom. They are incredibly high in anti-oxidants which help to optimise blood flow to the sex organs.”
